PURPOSE:To provide a glass-metal fused body in which any erosion of the glass of the airtight fused area and any corrosion of an electrode metal are prevented by preparing one of glass or insulating layers of at least more than two layers from an alkali-proof material and the other from an acid-proof material. CONSTITUTION:An airtight fused body for an alkaline battery is made by fusing an iron-nickel alloy negative electrode 21 and a stainless steel flange 23 by means of glass performs 22 and 22'. Here, the glass perform 22' facing the internal area of the battery is prepared from a glass material such as an alkali-resistant borate glass. Since an alkali-resistant glass is generally very weak to acid, an acid-resistant moisture-resistant usual glass 22 is used for an exposed surface opposite to the above inner surface. After that, the thus formed body is passed through a fusing furnace so as to perform airtight fusion between the metal and the glass as well as between the glass and the glass. |
