Reciprocating-piston, variable-volume single- or multi-cylinder internal combustion engine having the possibility of automatically increasing or decreasing the volume of its combustion chamber or chambers, by virtue of a variable-geometry piston. The latter has two bodies or elements, one 4 of which is floating and comprises the crown of the piston and the other 5 of which is fixed to the connecting-rod small end. The engine can be applied to any means of locomotion, especially to cars or to any stationary installation requiring an engine for operating at various speeds. <IMAGE>
