The pieces of timber (20,21) are liable to have at their root end (r) a sloping edge (E) limited by a retracted corner (H) and a corner (G) which projects forward. A saw blade (12) with a lopping plane (U), a crossways transporter (10) on which the timber pieces are fed forward longitudinally to the blade, and a measurement device (30) for the passing timber root ends are provided. The measurement device produces electrical signals, which are received by an electronic appts. (40) which in turn produces corresp. control signals. The device measures the distance (n') of the retracted corner of a passing timber piece from the lopping plane. The electronic appts. provides a control signal for the timber piece longitudinal movement on the transporter covering the movement of the piece from its measurement position to one where the retracted corner is located in the lopping plane. |
