An adapter to be engaged in a tape recorder and designed for a first kind of tape cassette and to drive a second, different kind of tape cassette, the adapter having a pair of rotatable members (31,32) respectively to be connected to a supply reel shaft and a take-up reel shaft of the tape recorder. The rotatable members (31,32) are always driven in the same direction as one another by an interlocking mechanism (31,32,33,36). A first power transmission mechanism (not shown) transmits power for reproduction to a take-up reel support (5) of the adapter. A second power transmission mechanism (FT) operating independently of the first mechanism and including a roller (39) mounted on a link (40) and engageable with a drive roller (38) and selectively with a roller (45) on a roller (46), selectively transmits power to the take-up reel support (5) or a supply reel support (4) during fast forwarding operation or rewinding operation, in response to the direction of rotation of the rotatable members (31,32). The adapter has a simple structure and no excessive backward tension is produced in the tape in the FWD mode. |
