The resilient supporting device is made up of polygonal spring elements (5) and discs (8) for limiting the maximum shaft deflection at the point of support. The spring elements (5) are pressed with prestress onto the outer race of the ball bearing or onto a bush which accommodates the ball bearing. With such a supporting device, damping and controlled limitation of the shaft deflections in the region of the point of support caused by unbalance and other dynamic operating stresses are achieved.
