<p>PURPOSE:To attain accurate mode discrimination even to a magnetic recording and reproducing device using any tracking control system by using a signal reproduced by a rotary magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:A level of a reproducing signal by a rotary magnetic head 11 is compared with a reference level R to obtain a discrimination signal with a different level from SP or LP modes. Since the track width T by the SP mode is wider than the width T of the recording track by the LP mode, the level of a reproducing signal from the recording track of the former is higher than that from the recording track of the latter. The reference level is set between a level of a reproduction signal from the recording track by the SP mode and that from the recording track by the LP mode, and then the level of the reproduction signal is compared with the reference level to obtain a discrimination signal whose level differs from the SP or LP mode.</p> |
