Date May 23, 1996The invention relates to a process for decolorization of solutions of sugars, sugar alcohols and betaine. In accordance with the process, a polyaluminium chloride is added to a solution of sugar, sugar alcohol or betaine having a dry substance content of 10 to 70% by weight and a temperature of 60 to 105 DEG C. in a suitable amount so as to obtain a mixture having a pH of 5.5 to 9.5, thereby precipitating the coloured substances, and the formed precipitate is separated from the solution. The invention also relates to the use of a polyaluminium chloride for decolorization of solutions of sugars, sugar alcohols and betaine.
