PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a breather chamber at a low cost while reducing a number of part items formed with the breather chamber. SOLUTION: In this breather device for a vertical engine, mounting a resin- made head cover 5 in an upper part of a valve system chamber 4, a receiving unit 35 is provided in a lower wall of this resin-made head cover 5, a resin-made cover unit 37 formed in a side surface with a slit for introducing gas is assembled in the receiving unit 35, so as to constitute a breather chamber 38. In this way, thus constituted, when the head cover and the cover unit are manufactured, for instance, by injection molding, assembly of the breather chamber is very simple, and even a number of part items is small.
