PURPOSE: A system and a method for storing digital MPEG data in storage media and reproducing the MPEG data are provided to add additional header information to the received MPEG data and store the data in storage media. CONSTITUTION: A system for storing digital MPEG data in storage media and reproducing the MPEG data includes a demultiplexer(101), a decoder, a start code searching unit(103), a storage block header generator(104), and a data storage(107). The demultiplexer demultiplexes video data and audio data based on header information of digital MPEG data. The decoder decodes the demultiplexed digital MPEG data. The start code searching unit searches the video data for a video data code. The storage block header generator adds the information searched by the start code searching unit and information required for a storage block. The data storage stores the MPEG data stream generated by the storage block header generator.
