PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily generate a simplified triangular mesh having a proper degree of simplification. SOLUTION: The triangular mesh simplifying device performs a process of generating the simplified triangular mesh by decreasing the number of surfaces of a triangular mesh. Namely, the maximum distance between the surface of the triangular mesh before the simplification and the vertexes of the simplified mesh is calculated in a step S3 to find a measurement error as the degree of the simplification. In a step S5, it is decided whether the measurement error exceeds a specified error as a value previously specified as a reference value of the measurement error. In a step S7, the process for the simplification is carried out through ridge degenerating operation within a range wherein the measurement error does not exceed the specified error according to the decision result.
