The film is passed through the nip of rollers 12, 14, one of which has an appropriately grooved surface, and then away over roller 16. Roller 14 is mounted on a horizontally movable part 18 of the framework and this is used to adjust the nip pressure, via hydraulic ram 20. Rollers 12, 14 are driven in opposite directions by appropriate means which allow adjustment of speeds and the temperature of these rollers is controlled, for instance by internaly circulating liquids. The rollers comprise a relatively fixed core member with a sleeve rotatable around and bearing on the core. Passageways in the core member leading to depressions in its surface allow bearing liquid to be supplied to the interface of member and sleeve. |
