1354153 Unsaturated aldehydes SNAM PROGETTI SpA 19 April 1971 [14 April 1970] 39096/73 Divided out of 1354152 Heading C2C Unsaturated aldehyde is prepared from olefin by a process wherein a gaseous mixture comprising olefin, molecular oxygen and, optionally, steam is contacted with catalyst which comprises (a) a composition comprising uranium in oxide form and tellurium in oxide form and having a tellurium : uranium atomic ratio of from 2 : 1 to 5 : 1 and, optionally, (b) carrier material, for example silica, which may constitute up to 80 weight per cent of the catalyst. Contacting may be effected at a temperature of from 350 to 500‹ C. and a pressure which is at or slightly higher than atmospheric pressure; the catalyst may be in the form of a fixed bed or a fluidized bed. As exemplified, acrolein is prepared by a procedure wherein a mixture of propylene, air and steam is contacted at a temperature of 430‹ C. with a fixed bed of catalyst having a tellurium : uranium atomic ratio of 4 : 1 and containing 25 weight per cent silica. |
