PURPOSE:To enable to print starting from a desired recording-starting position on a recording paper, by a method wherein when an end part of a recording paper set on a platen roller is detected by a recording paper sensor provided in proximity to a thermal head so that is can be reciprocated together with the head, the driving of the head is started on the basis of the detection. CONSTITUTION:The recording paper sensor 21 is provided on a top surface of a carriage 4 at a predetermined part on the left of the thermal head 11. When the left end of the recording paper 18 set on the platen roller 1 is detected by the sensor 21, a sequence-controlling part counts the number of pulses impressed on a stepping motor 5 from the time t3 of the detection. When the count reaches a predetermined value B and the thermal head 11 reaches the desired recording- starting position in a left end part of the paper 18, the sequence-controlling part devices a solenoid for turning the head 11 to press the head 11 against the platen roller 1. In addition, the sequence-controlling part starts driving the head 11 at this moment t4 to perform thermal transfer recording of image information. |
