PURPOSE:To aim at enhancing the rigidity of a cylinder block, by incorporating balance shafts in bulged section in one side wall of the cylinder block, and by forming the upper part of a bulged section of a thermostat casing and the cylinder side wall, integrally with each other. CONSTITUTION:Balancer shafts 4, 5 are incorporated in a bulged section 8 formed in one side wall 1d of a cylinder block 1. Further, in the side wall section 1d, a thermostat casing 10 in which a thermostat 9 is disposed, is formed integrally with the bulged section 8 above the latter so that it is continuous with a part of the upper side wall part of the bulged section 8, being coupled with the cylinder block side wall 1b of a cylinder section 1a. Accordingly, it is possible to make the installation of the thermostat 9 compact, and to enhance the rigidity of the entire cylinder block.
