<p>PURPOSE:To establish a smelting process of copper or copper alloy which permits frequent use of scrap raw material and is capable of producing materials having a sulfur concn. below the ordinary refining threshold at a low cost. CONSTITUTION:The copper raw materials are heated up to a temp. of [m.p. or liquidus + (50 to 500 deg.C)] and thereafter, a desulfurizing agent prepd. by mixing >=1 kinds of BaO, Ba(OH)2 or BaCO3 and >=1 kinds among BaF2, BaCl2, NaF, NaCl, Na2CO3, Na2O, NaOH, CaCl2, CaF2, KF, KCl, K2CO3, KOH, LiF, LiCl, Li2CO3 and LiOH at a ratio of 0 to 50% to the total amt. thereof or a mixture composed of this desulfurizing agent and carbon powder of <10% of the weight of the desulfurizing agentW is added in a range of 0.1 to 10% of the weight of the molten metal (on the bases of the amt. of the desulfurizing agent) to the molten metal and the molten metal is held. The desulfurizing agent after the reaction is then removed or further the surface of the molten metal is kept coated with 'charcoal' or 'a material contg. >=50wt.% carbon' at the time of adding the desulfurizing agent described above or the desulfurizing agent mixture to the molten metal.</p> |
