The invention relates to a method for producing a piston (1) which, at least in a circumferential region facing a piston base (2), is made of a light metal alloy which is suitable for forging and has at least one ring support (3) to receive a piston ring. It is essential to the invention that a piston blank (4) is reshaped in a first shaping tool (5) in such a way until the piston blank surrounds a ring support (3) produced by a sintering process by positive engagement, that the previously forged piston blank (4) is removed from the first shaping tool (5) and placed into a second shaping tool (7), and a holding-down tool (6) is introduced which holds the ring support (3) down during a further forging step, and that a final forming die (8) is pressed in and as a result the piston blank (4) is reshaped to form the piston (1).
