The invention relates to a packaging machine (1) which comprises a control unit (2), multiple measuring devices (5), and multiple working units (3) for different processes. The control unit (2) is functionally connected to the working units (3) and to the measuring devices (5), and the measuring devices (5) are configured to detect actual process values (I) at each working unit (3) and forward same to the control unit (2) in order to monitor a process status of each working unit (3). The control unit (2) is designed to produce a program sequence (P) in a self-controlled manner for each working unit (3) and/or in a coordinated manner with respect to the working units (3) by comparing (V) the actual process values (I) forwarded to the control unit from each measuring device (5) with corresponding target process values (S) from a storage unit (7) connected to the control unit, and each working unit (3) functions on the basis of the actual process values (I) detected at the working unit and/or in a coordinated manner according to the program sequence.
