506,277. Condensers; insulators and cable-end sleeves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., SCOTT, T. R., and WEBB, J. K. Nov. 24, 1937, No. 32387. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 36 and 37] A stress grading means capable of use in cable-ends, condenser -bushings, potential dividers, or hign tension condensers is prepared by winding sheets or tapes of fibrous insulating material, impregnated or surface impregnated with polymerized material such as polystyrene, into the desired form, inserting conducting layers between the convolutions during the winding and rendering the surface polymer of the fibrous material tacky and adhesive by applying polymerizable material therto so as to convert the assembly into a solid unit. The polymerizable material such as monomeric styrene may be applied to the surfaces in the course of winding or may be subsequently introduced as by immersion or impregnation. The conductive layers may be applied by spraying metal. Specifications 449,868; and 454,923, [Group VIII] are referred to and the Provisional Specification refers to Specifications 377,311, 464,801, 465,883, and 504,720. |
