An assembled battery module includes battery cells connected in series, resistors, a voltage measuring unit, failure detection switches, and a control unit. Each resistor is connected between a positive or negative electrode of the corresponding battery cell and a corresponding node for the positive or negative electrode. Each failure detection switch is connected between the two nodes corresponding to positive and negative electrodes of a battery cell to allow on-off switching between the two nodes. The control unit detects a disconnection between a positive or negative electrode of a battery cell to a corresponding node based on first and second voltages measured between two nodes, the first voltage being measured when one of the two failure detection switches connected to the corresponding node is switched from on to off and the second voltage being measured when the other failure detection switch is switched from on to off. |
