The present utility model is directed to the process of manufacture of a medical wound dressing. Honey and alginate are mixed and treated with a calcium compound to be able to form alginate gels. Sterility is ensured by exposure of the wound dressing to gamma irradiation. The wound dressing can s be used for treatment of moderately to heavily exudating wounds including surgical wounds, burns, ulcers and pressure sores.
