Preparing porous gels comprising pores in nm to mu m range, with incorporated catalytic or biologically active materials, comprises: (a) providing a liquid medium which is a solvent or a solvent mixture at a phase transition temperature; (b) cooling the liquid medium to a temperature below phase transition temperature of liquid medium; (c) exposing the cooled medium to electron radiation or short-wave UV radiation to achieve crosslinking of the crosslinkable monomer; (d) removing solvent or solvent mixture to form porous gel, the pores of which have predetermined size and shape. Preparing porous gels comprising pores in nm to mu m range, with incorporated catalytic or biologically active materials, comprises: (a) providing a liquid medium which is a solvent or a solvent mixture at a phase transition temperature, which forms a solid phase of amorphous and/or crystalline structures upon cooling, providing at least a monomer component cross-linkable by electron radiation or short-wave UV radiation in the wavelength of 100-250 nm and having at least one catalytically or biologically active material in solution, dispersion or emulsion; (b) cooling the liquid medium to a temperature below the phase transition temperature of the liquid medium; (c) exposing the cooled medium from the step (b) to electron radiation or short-wave UV radiation in the wavelength of 100-250 nm with a sufficient dose to achieve crosslinking of the crosslinkable monomer; (d) removing the solvent or solvent mixture to form a porous gel, the pores of which have a predetermined size and shape through the amorphous or crystalline structure of the solid phase formed in the step (b). The amorphous or crystalline structures in solid phase are formed as a template and are used for the resulting network. Independent claims are also included for: (1) porous gel, obtainable by the above mentioned method comprising a crosslinked polymer component and incorporated catalytic or biologically active materials, which is free of polymerization initiators and organic solvents; and (2) a material composition comprising the gel. |
