A detachable reservoir 10 comprises an attachment means 14 that enables the reservoir 10 to be attached to and removed from a housing 6 of an engine coolant pump 5. The reservoir 10 comprises a hollow body 11 defining a chamber (12, Fig. 2) in which coolant is collected and has a mouth (11m, Fig. 3a) shaped to complement a surface of the housing 6. A level indicator (140, Fig. 5) indicates the level of the coolant in the reservoir 10. The level indicator may be a cutout (16, Fig. 2) or may be formed from transparent or translucent plastics, and may also comprise a line or mark (140, Fig. 5) indicating a maximum desired level. The attachment means 14 may comprise a pair of detents (21, 22, Fig. 3a) or flexible arms 14, 15. The reservoir 10 can be replaced or emptied and refitted when it becomes full of coolant that has leaked from the coolant pump 5. The invention is particularly suitable for an engine water pump. |
