1. A device configured as a communication provider and comprising:
at least one processor; and one or more computer-readable memory storage devices storing one or more processor-executable instructions which, responsive to execution by the at least one processor, enable the device to perform operations comprising: receiving, from an originating endpoint via a packet-based communication network, a request message associated with the originating endpoint requesting to communicate with a destination endpoint over the packet-based communication network; resolving based, at least in part, on accessing a database, an indication of an image associated with the originating endpoint to use in a push notification to the destination endpoint; generating, in response to the request message from the originating endpoint, the push notification to send to the destination endpoint, the push notification configured to: notify the destination endpoint of the originating endpoint requesting to communicate; and enable the destination endpoint to formulate a call acceptance response as a return handshake message based, at least in part, on information in the push notification; inserting, into the push notification, the indication of the image, the indication configured to enable the image to be output by the destination endpoint in a user notification notifying a destination user regarding a communication associated with the originating endpoint; and sending the push notification to the destination endpoint over the packet-based network. |
