PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably producing lanthanum hydride from lanthanum at low temperature.SOLUTION: There is provided the method for producing lanthanum hydride from lanthanum, comprising the steps of: (A) charging lanthanum in a pressure-resistant vessel and heating the vessel to 50 to 200°C; (B) introducing hydrogen having a gauge pressure of 0.1 to 0.3 MPa into the vessel; and (C) repeating a step (C) and/or a step (C)until the gauge pressure stops dropping after passage of 1 to 15 minutes after the introduction of hydrogen: (C) carrying out the step (B), when the gauge pressure drops after passage of 1 to 15 minutes after introduction of hydrogen but does not drop to 0; and (C) leaving the reaction mixture for 6 minutes or more and then introducing hydrogen having a gauge pressure of 0.1 to 0.3 MPa into the vessel for 3 to 10 seconds, when the gauge pressure dropped to 0 after passage of 1 to 15 minutes after the introduction of hydrogen.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
