PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium ion secondary battery superior in initial charge/discharge efficiency.SOLUTION: A negative electrode active material for a lithium ion secondary battery comprises: negative electrode active material particles made of a carbon material; and a C-F-O-P-V layer on the surface of each negative electrode active material particle. In the negative electrode active material for a lithium ion secondary battery, the C-F-O-P-V layer includes 0.1-5 atm% of V to the whole C-F-O-P-V layer. A negative electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery comprises: the negative electrode active material and a binder. A lithium ion secondary battery comprises: the negative electrode; a positive electrode; a separator; and a nonaqueous electrolyte.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
