PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the erroneous detection of an object present at a position where a vehicle does not actually contact the object as a contact target.SOLUTION: A plurality of ranging sensors 20 each serving as an object detection sensor transmitting a survey wave and receiving a reflection wave thereof as detection information on an object is provided in a vehicle 30. When positional information on objects 51 to 53 calculated on the basis of direct waves and indirect waves indicates that positions are within a progress range of the vehicle 30, an ECU 10 serving as an object detector determines whether the objects 51 to 53 are contact targets to contact the vehicle 30 on the basis of lateral positional information that is the positional information in the direction (vehicle width direction) orthogonal to the vehicle travel direction out of the positional information and the reliability of the positional information.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
