PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode active material capable of increasing the capacity of a secondary battery or an electric capacitor, while suppressing decrease in the reversible capacity due to initial charge and discharge, and to provide a method of producing such an electrode active material.SOLUTION: An electrode active material 1 has low crystallinity carbon particles 2 composed of a low crystallinity carbon material 21 having an aromatic structure, and a coating layer 3 covering the low crystallinity carbon particles 2 and composed of a high crystallinity carbon material 31 having crystallinity higher than that of the low crystallinity carbon material 21. Preferably, the electrode active material 1 has the value Rc of the ratio of peak area at 284-285 eV to the total peak area of C1s spectrum obtained by XPS analysis in a range of 0.05-0.76.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1A |
