PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a honeycomb structure, in which a plurality of porous ceramic-made honeycomb units are assembled to produce the honeycomb structure and generation of a crack is suppressed when the adjacent honeycomb units are brought into contact with each other.SOLUTION: The method for producing the honeycomb structure comprises: an extrusion molding step of extruding a silicon carbide-containing ceramic raw material to produce a honeycomb molding 11; a dewaxing step of dewaxing the honeycomb molding 11 to produce a honeycomb dewaxed body 12; a firing step of firing the honeycomb dewaxed body 12 to produce a monolith type honeycomb fired body 13; a cutting step of cutting the monolith type honeycomb fired body 13 in the direction parallel to the longitudinal direction thereof to produce a plurality of honeycomb units 14; and an assembling step of assembling the plurality of honeycomb units 14 while interposing an adhesive material layer 15 between the adjacent honeycomb units to produce the honeycomb structure 1. The honeycomb molding 11 of the honeycomb structure 1 has a cutting area to be cut at the cutting step and a functional area other than the cutting area in the vertical cross perpendicular to the longitudinal direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
