The present invention relates to a power electric steering controlling method and an apparatus thereof, and more specifically, to a power electric steering controlling method, which continuously provides steering assist force using a motor by an electric power steering controlling apparatus even when a fault occurs in a torque sensor, and the electric power steering controlling apparatus thereof. The power electric steering controlling method comprises: a fault generation detection step of detecting whether a fault generates in the torque sensor; an information receiving step of receiving information on the steering angle and information on the speed of a vehicle when the fault generates in the torque sensor; a compensation object value calculating step of calculating each of self-aligning torque, the damping force of an electric motor steering apparatus, inertia force and frictional force using at least one of the information on the steering angle and the information on the speed of the vehicle; and a current control step of calculating steering assist force based on a compensation object value and controlling the supply of motor control current corresponding to the steering assist force. |
