PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for the treatment of sickle cell disease, acute chest syndrome, peripheral arterial disease, myocardial infarction, cerebral apoplexy, peripheral vascular disease, macular degeneration, multiple organ failure, ischemia, hemorrhagic shock, septic shock, acidosis, hypothermia, anemic decomposition, surgery, injury, acute blood loss, and blood disease, by improving oxygenation by damaged erythrocytes.SOLUTION: THE invention relates to a method comprising a) mixing blood or a red blood cell heavy solution with specific polyoxyethylene/polyoxypropylene copolymer to produce a transfusion composition; and b) storing the transfusion composition, and improving the safety and efficacy of a transfusion blood or the red blood cell heavy solution. The copolymer is a triblock copolymer represented by the formula: HO(CHO)-(CHO)-(CHO)H [where, b is an integer such that the hydrophobic portion represented by (CHO) has a molecular weight of 950-4000; and a is an integer such that the hydrophilic portion represented by (CHO) constitutes 50-90% by weight of the copolymer.]SELECTED DRAWING: None |
