PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make possible simple and reliable testing of breaking strength of a sample under mechanical tensile strength &sgr;.SOLUTION: A template surface having a prescribed bend radius R in the test object part of a sample is pressed to coercively cause this bend radius R of the template surface is to be generated in the test object part; the sample is tested under the mechanical tensile stress &sgr; corresponding to this bend radius R; this test is repeated until the sample is broken in the shrinking bend radius R and with the correspondingly increasing tensile stress &sgr;; and it is assessed at what level of the tensile stress &sgr;, or in what bend radius, the sample was broken.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6b
