A microalgal harvesting system

A microalgal harvesting system is disclosed for segregating microalgae from a medium containing microalgae, wherein the system comprises an electrolytic cell configured to perform electrolysis of the medium containing microalgae. The electrolytic cell comprises a container configured to contain the medium containing microalgae, an anode (101C) and a cathode (101B) spaced apart in the container and immersed in the medium containing microalgae. The microalgal harvesting system also comprises a solar power generator to generate and supply DC electrical power to a charge controller. The microalgal harvesting system also comprises a converter configured to convert AC electrical power from a grid to DC electrical power and a battery bank (104) configured to receive DC electrical power from the charge controller and the converter and supply said DC electrical power to the anode and the cathode of the electrolytic cell.
