PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a processing time while preventing occurrence of a recognition error even when an edge direction of an image, which is obtained by imaging an object, is partly reversed because of adhesion of dust or dirt, a change in illumination, or a difference in a surface state due to an individual difference.SOLUTION: A tentative local score fbetween a point of a feature image in a template image and a point in an image to be searched of a position associated with the point of the feature image is calculated (S32). Whether the tentative local score ffalls below 0 is decided (S33). If a decision is made that the tentative local score fis equal to or larger than 0, fis regarded as a local score (S35).
