An ice-making device is provided with: an ice-making cylinder (11) having formed therein ice-making chambers (111) that comprise a discharge port (111a) on the upper end thereof and an introduction port (111b) for ice-making water on the lower section thereof; and an ice breaker (13) that comprises an evaporator (12) for cooling the ice-making cylinder so that ice-making water supplied into the ice-making chambers via the introduction ports freezes and an ice piece-forming section (132) that is positioned in the area above the ice-making chambers in the cylinder and that crosses the axes of the ice-making chambers. The ice-making chambers are formed to have a tapered shape in which the cross-sectional area gradually increases from the lower side to the upper side thereof. The pressure resulting from volume expansion when the ice-making water becomes ice is used as driving force to push the ice upward and form columnar lumps of ice that progress upward within the ice-making chambers. The progression directions of the columnar lumps of ice that are pushed out from the discharge ports of the ice-making chambers as a result of the progression of ice making are oriented such that the ice is brought into contact with the ice piece-forming section (132) of the ice breaker, changes direction, and is broken in order to form ice pieces. |
