Provided is a constant velocity universal joint that comprises: an outer joint member having an opening at one end thereof; and an inner joint member for transmitting torque to and from the outer joint member through balls while permitting an angular displacement. The ends of a boot for closing the opening of the outer joint member are fastened and affixed to the mounting portion of the outer joint member and to the mounting portion of a shaft extending from the inner joint member. A sliding bearing serving as an intermediate member for reducing wear due to friction caused by the relative movement between the outer peripheral surface of the shaft and the inner peripheral surface of the boot is provided at a portion of the outer peripheral surface of the shaft, the portion being that with which the inner peripheral surface of at least the boot comes into contact when the shaft has an operating angle relative to the outer joint member.
