A liquid storage system, such as an aircraft fuel tank, for mitigation of hydrostatic ram shockwaves 30 due to impact of a projectile 24, comprising a tank 16 for containing a liquid, the tank enclosing a liquid storage space 14. A plurality of spaced apart homogeneous protrusions 18b extend from an internal surface of the tank 16 into the liquid storage space. Each protrusion may be a polygon such as a hexagon, heptagon or octagon. Spaces between the protrusions may define one or more meandering paths across the internal surface of the tank from which the protrusions extend. The protrusions may be integral with walls of the tank. A tank liner 18 may comprise a base layer 18a, having a first surface attached to the internal surface of the tank, and a second surface opposite the first surface, wherein the protrusions extend from the second surface of the tank liner. The protrusions may be made of a material selected from plastic, metal, rubber and a material comprising aramid, or para-aramid fibres. |
