<p>A process for tanning a substrate using at least one ionic liquid (IL) is described. The ionic liquid can be used in at least one of the following tanning steps: tanning, re-tanning, preservation, liming, pickling, impregnation, lubrication, dyeing, fatliquoring or finishing. The Ionic liquid may comprise a deep eutectic, with a freezing point of up to 50oC, which may be used in a non-aqueous system. The ionic liquids can be used to dissolve reactive dyes such as dichlorotriazine or dichloroquioxaline. The complexion agent used may be a diol, acetamide or a glycol.</p> |
