1,137,237. Absorbing longitudinal shocks. SOC. ANON. ANDRE CITROEN. 9 Oct., 1967 [18 Nov., 1966], No. 46096/67. Heading B7D. In a double wishbone vehicle suspension permitting longitudinal flexibility of a wheel relative to a vehicle frame one of the pivots 3 of a wheel carrier 1 acts as a fixed point while the other pivot 2 is adapted to move longitudinally of the frame in a horizontal plane by being mounted at one end 5 of a lever 6 having its opposite end pivoted to a vertical pivot pin 7 rigid with the corresponding wishbone link 4. Pivoting of the lever 6 is resisted resiliently by buffers 10 which are mounted in the lever and engage the walls 11 of the link 4. In modifications (Figs. 4 to 7, not shown) a horizontal pin (16) passes through the buffers 10, which are hollow, a further resilient member (15) being disposed between the lever 6 and pin (16) to control pivoting of the lever about a horizontal axis through the pin 7. The position of the ball joint 26 between the wheel carrier 1 and a steering rod 25 is chosen to give a small vertical component of movement as the carrier 1 and pivot 2 move longitudinally of the vehicle frame (Figs. 11, 12, not shown).
|
