<p>The invention relates to an electrode (1) of an electrochemical cell for a lead-acid storage battery, comprising: a porous substrate (2) having a substrate surface (3a) lying on a first face and having a substrate surface (3b) located on the opposite second face, wherein the two opposite substrate surfaces (3a, 3b) enclose a substrate volume having a porous structure (4) which, as a result of the substrate surfaces (3a, 3b) having an open or porous structure, in the uncoated state is at least partially exposed; and an adherent lead coating (6), which is designed in such a manner that the pores (5) of the porous structure (4) are partially filled with lead (6), providing a continuous coating with lead (6) as metal conductor, which allows a flow of electric current from one substrate surface (3a, 3b) to the other. According to the invention, at least one of the two substrate surfaces (3a, 3b) is reinforced on the outside by means of an active layer (9) made of lead (6), which layer consists either of a multiplicity of fractal lead structures (11) oriented obliquely and/or perpendicularly to the plane of the substrate surface (3a, 3b) and in turn assembled from a plurality of lead structural elements (10), and/or consists of a multiplicity of dendritic and/or columnar lead structures (13) oriented obliquely and/or perpendicularly to the plane of the substrate surface (3a, 3b). Within the active layer (9), there are free volumes (12) between the fractal lead structures (11) and/or dendritic and/or columnar lead structures (13). The invention further relates to an electrode arrangement for a lead-acid storage battery, comprising at least two electrodes (1) designed according to the invention and a separator installed therebetween.</p> |
