PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rudder capable of protecting a control element of a fin from a pressure, collision or impact. SOLUTION: This rudder for a ship comprises a rudder plate 2 rotatably supported by a supporting part, a fin 3 coupled with the rudder plate, and a fin controlling device S having a controlling element and installed between the rudder plate 2 and a hull 6 outside the rudder plate 2. In this rudder, a protective member L is provided at a hull 6 portion positioned on a lateral side of the controlling element.
