1283079 Recording method using organic halogen compounds CANON K K 29 July 1969 [29 July 1968] 37947/69 Headings B6C and CA13 A method of recording comprises subjecting an organic halogen compound to the action of a catalyst comprising an organic metal salt which can be reduced by irradiation, before or after the catalyst has been subjected to activating irradiation, so as to result in the production of free radicals in the organic halogen compound and subjecting an image-forming compound sensitive to free radicals and/or a halogen acid secondarily formed from the free radicals to the action of the organic halogen compound so activated. The organic metal salt may be an oxalate, acetate, basic salt or metal complex e.g. potassium oxalate, cobalt oxalate, acetates of monovalent, divalent, trivalent or tetravalent metals, Cu(OH) 2 (CH 3 COO) 4 or a metal complex salt of the Formula:- wherein R 1 and R 2 are H, alkyl, aralkyl or aryl; and Me is a metal atom. The organic helogen compound may have the Formula:- RCX 3 wherein R is H, halogen, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl, substituted or unsubstituted aryl; and X is F, Cl, Br or I, the X atoms not necessarily all being the same halogen. The image-forming material may form an image by forming a colour, fading or losing all colour, or by polymerizing. A photosensitive member comprising the catalyst, organic halogen compound and image-forming material may be imagewise exposed to activate the catalyst and thereby form an image. The photo-sensitive member may comprise the catalyst and control of image position may be effected by controlling the position of application of the radiation or of a treating material containing the organic halogen compound and the image-forming material. Exposure may be imagewise or overall depending on the distribution of the treating material. Alternatively the photo-sensitive member may comprise the catalyst and the organic halogen compound or the catalyst and the image-forming material, the other component being in the treating material. When the treating material contains the catalyst it may be exposed before imagewise application e.g. using a stencil, to the member comprising the other component(s). |
