An underground storage tank 11 which tapers inwardly from its top to its base is disposed in a shaft 10 with a layer of sand 12 therearound and is held in position by a sandcovered slab 15 resting on a cushion 16 and a shoulder 14 of the shaft. In a modification, see Fig. 2 (not shown), the tank rests on a cushion supported on a series of slabs, the lowermost of which is removably secured to the top of the tank by tie-rods.</p> |
