This aims to provide a printer which can halve the moving stroke of a center-hole detecting sensor precisely to that of guide plates and which can perform a guide plate moving operation lightly. The printer comprises a second guide plate (23) arranged to confront a first guide plate (22) such that it can move in the widthwise direction of a tag-continuing strip (1) to be conveyed, for guiding the other end of the tag-continuing strip (1) conveyed, a first rack (32) integrated with the second guide plate (23) for moving an equal distance in an identical direction, a two-step gear (35), in which a drive-side large pinion (33) meshing with thefirst rack (32) and a driven-side small pinion (34) having a gear ratio of one half with respect to the drive-side large pinion (33) are integrated, a second rack (37) meshing with the driven-side small pinion (34), and a center-hole detecting sensor (26) integrated with the second rack (37) for moving an equal distance in an identical direction.
