A pharmaceutical composition for treating leukemia, which contains ginsenoside Rh2 as an active ingredient is provided to induce apoptosis of leukemia cell line, U937 cell and suppress the cell proliferation. A pharmaceutical composition for treating leukemia comprises a ginsenoside Rh2 of the chemical formula 1 as an active ingredient. The pharmaceutical composition for treating leukemia further comprises a carrier, excipient, or diluents. The pharmaceutical composition is used in the form of tablet, pill, powder, granule, capsule, suspension agent, emulsion, and syrup for oral administration.
