A vehicle door (1) includes a first edge (5) for pivotal attachment to the vehicle, a free edge (7) opposite the first edge, side edges (8, 9) and pocket means (27) formed in the thickness (E, Fig. 4b) of the door, wherein the pocket means (27) opens through the free edge (7) and a side edge (8 or 9) and provides at least one handle (22) that a user can grasp to close the door (1). A pocket means (27) may be provided on either side of a lock (47). Each pocket (27) may be formed between an outer (11, Fig. 3) and an inner (13, Fig. 3) door skin. Alternatively, a pocket (127, Fig. 8) may be formed in an interior door trim panel (121). A recessed portion (53, Fig. 7) may be provided to allow the door to be closed from inside the vehicle. |
