A stator vane assembly for a compressor (14) of a gas turbine engine (10), including a stator vane (34/66) having an inner portion (42) and an outer portion (40), a platform (47/70) attached to the outer portion (40) of the stator vane (34/66), a casing (26/58) for the gas turbine engine (10), wherein the outer platform (47/70) of the stator vane (34/66) is attached to the casing (26/58) in a manner so that an open area (38/68) is defined therebetween, and a member (36/72) positioned within the defined open area (38/68) for damping vibrations transmitted from the casing (26/58) to the outer platform (47/70). The casing (26) may have a split-line configuration so that first and second circumferential flanges (28,30) are mated together, wherein the outer platform (47) is attached to the casing (26) by means of a flange (50) extending therefrom which is positioned between and connected to the first and second circumferential flanges (28,30). Alternatively, the casing (58) may have a clam shell configuration so that first and second axial flanges (60,62) are mated together, wherein the outer platform (70) is attached to the casing (58) by means of a rail member (64) incorporated into an inner surface of the casing (58).
