<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus which sets an important region to a recognition object of image data so as to reduce the coded data size. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes: a region extraction means which extracts a recognition object region from input image data; an important region selection means which uses feature quantities of image data in the recognition object region, or its neighboring region to select the recognition object region determined to be a region, where the degradation of image quality should be reduced as an important region; and a coding means which compresses and codes image data, in regions other than the recognition object region selected as an important region by a first quantization step and compresses and codes the image data of the recognition object region selected as the important region, by a second quantization step of a smaller quantization step than the first quantization step. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
