<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outboard motor that can stably cool a catalyst, while preventing an enlargement of a water pump. <P>SOLUTION: In this outboard motor, a cooling water passage 43 guides cooling water for cooling an exhaust passage and a cylinder unit 20. A cooling water intake port 41 takes external water in the cooling water passage. The water pump 42 takes in the cooling water from the cooling water intake port and supplies it to the cooling water passage. A thermostat 47 is arranged downstream of the catalyst 44 and the cylinder unit in the cooling water passage. A first bypass passage 61 is connected to a first connecting part P1 in the cooling water passage.
