PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for ultrasonic non-destructive inspection comprising an elongate strip of ultrasonic transmission material coupled at a proximal end to an object to be tested.SOLUTION: An elongate strip has a longitudinal cross-section with a width and a thickness giving aspect ratio greater than one-to-one, and induces a substantially non-dispersive ultrasonic signal which matches with an ultrasonic transducer, propagates along the elongate strip to a proximal end and enters an object to be tested by excitation. A non-dispersive pulse is particularly suited for time-of-flight measurement, thickness measurement, crack measurement and the like. The transducer is separated from potentially inappropriate environment associated with the object to be tested by the elongate strip. The elongate strip also has a large area of contact with the object to be tested, enabling efficient irradiation to the object to be tested. |
