PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder block for an internal combustion engine, which is intended to prevent knocking and improved in a fuel consumption and an exhaust gas by suppressing the abnormal and inhomogeneous heating of fresh air (or air-fuel mixture) sucked into a cylinder bore.SOLUTION: A cylinder bore 3 has an inner face constituted of a cylinder liner 10 and an outer side formed of a water jacket 4. Thus, an intake side inner wall 6 and an exhaust side inner wall 7 are positioned across the cylinder bore 3. The exhaust side inner wall 7 has a thickness T1 smaller than a thickness T2 of the exhaust side inner wall 6 thereby to enhance the cooling performance of the exhaust side inner wall 7. As a result, the fresh air is suppressed from being abnormally and inhomogeneously heated. The changes in the thicknesses of the inner walls 6 and 7 can be simply realized by shifting the position of the cylinder liner 10 in a transverse direction 22. |
